Dr. Drobnak will be giving a presentation on the life and career of Oscar Stover at the 2020 Southwestern Division CBDNA Conference. The title of the presentation is:
The presentation will focus on Stover's programs at Coffeyville Junior College (Kansas) and Northwestern State College (Oklahoma). Performance excerpts of Stover's ensembles back to the mid-1930s will be presented along with a discussion of Stover's youth and training.
C. Oscar Stover is widely known for establishing one of the great small school band programs at Northwestern State College, where he served as Director of Bands from 1960-1976. Previously, he served at Michigan State University from 1953-1960 as Assistant Band Director to Leonard Falcone. Stover's career also included duty in the 13th Army Airborne Band in World War II. He is a native of Coffeyville, Kansas, and had two stints working in their public school system. First, in the mid-1930s after completing his associates degree while working to finish a bachelor's degree at Kansas State Teachers College (Pittsburg). After World War II, Stover returned to Coffeyville where he served as Director of Bands at Coffeyville Junior College and Supervisor of Music for Coffeyville Schools, from 1947-1952.
This presentation is scheduled at 8:30 AM on Thursday, February 20 in Thurman White Hall (OCCE Forum Building) on the campus of The University of Oklahoma.
